Yesterday at our #BCCSBW celebration, we announced that our Chamber has been awarded $150,000 from a $9 million partnership between the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and the Government of Canada through the Shop Local Program. The Shop Local funding has allowed the Chamber to invest back into the community and will encourage economic growth in our city. This much-needed support will help businesses take advantage of the holiday shopping season and build consumer confidence. The Burlington Shop Local program will consist of three segments divided between three recipients: Downtown Burlington Business Association: as an enhancement to the existing brand of Shop Local Love Local, the Burlington Chamber of Commerce will work with its flagship project partner, the Downtown Burlington, Ontario Business Association, to make available an exclusive Downtown Burlington Shop Local Love Local Gift Card for shoppers to use for purchases made online or in-store at local restaurants, retailers and personal services throughout the holiday season (and beyond into coming years - this program launches in advance of the 2021 holiday season) and encourages corporate and local gifting to family, friends, employees and clients.Burlington Holiday Market: The first annual Burlington Holiday Market will be held from December 9 – 12 and will bring a blend of different foods, music, experiences, and shopping moments to the city centre, generating excitement around the theme of "Hometown Holidays" and building consumer confidence in a safe and effective manner.BurlingtonGreen Environmental Association: As an enhancement to the existing brand of Shop Local Love Local, the Burlington Chamber of Commerce will work with its flagship project partner, BurlingtonGreen Environmental Association, to build community awareness about green businesses and products available in Burlington, and the benefits of buying local, through Shop Local Shop Green. A new online directory will serve as a convenient resource to support consumer purchasing throughout the holiday season, and all year long.Congratulations to our funding recipients! We look forward to working with you to bring these projects to life. Stay tuned for more information as each Holiday project is rolled out over the coming weeks.Karina Gould, Pam Damoff, Mayor Marianne Meed Ward, City of Burlington, Ontario, Peter-John van Dyk, Frederikse Law, Tourism Burlington, Effie Triantafilopoulos, Jane McKenna ...
